Thoughts on dumpster diving for food?

Gross! People still do that?
Sounds like a recipe for a gastrointestinal disaster.
If it helps mitigate food waste, I'm not against other people doing it.
I have friends who dumpster dive and they cite good reasons for doing so.
It's what's for dinner!
